Atlantic Station Mixed Use Development

Ivey Mechanical Company provided the domestic water, storm water, and sanitary sewer piping main distribution systems for the parking deck and buildings of the massive mixed use redevelopment project on the site of the old Atlantic Steel Company in downtown Atlanta. Additionally, Ivey installed the plumbing and HVAC systems for retail buildings #10 and #11. The facility will eventually include approximately 15 million square feet of retail, office, residential, and hotel space. To provide parking for the large number of visitors and residents, an underground parking deck provides space for about 7,300 vehicles.

The Federal Express World Headquarters was built to consolidate all of the administrative Federal Express offices scattered across the Memphis metropolitan area. Consisting of 8 buildings, the Federal Express World Headquarters complex covers 89.02 acres and is equipped to house between 3,500 and 4,500 employees. Ivey installed more than 9,000 floor diffusers, along with a ductless-style under-floor heating and cooling system. The monumental stairs were moved to the outside of the buildings and were surrounded by glass, which created a HVAC challenge for the Ivey team. Ivey co-workers at the FedEx project celebrated 398,491 safe man-hours after 33 months of work.
IKEA Furniture Store at Atlantic Station

Ivey Mechanical Company provided the plumbing and HVAC systems for this new store located in the massive Atlantic Station mixed use development in downtown Atlanta. The 370,000 square foot facility consists mainly of an open ceiling design which exposes the majority of the plumbing and HVAC systems to public view. The storm water management design for the building included the first syphonic roof drain installation in Georgia. Over 6 1/2 miles of piping and approximately 44 tons of sheet metal were installed in the facility.

The Riverplace Tower is a 420,000 square foot 28 story high rise office building. Ivey’s HVAC portion of this renovation project consisted of removing and replacing the ductwork, piping, and induction units in the tennat areas; removing and replacing the air handlers, piping, and ductwork in the building; installing ductwork from the third floor to the 28th floor; changing out the hot water heaters; and removing and replacing the plumbing in the restrooms throughout the building. All of the work was completed while the building was 88% occupied.

Scientific Atlanta is a cable and satellite products firm. Approximately 870 employees from six locations were consolidated into the new buildings, which total 300,000 square feet. The facility houses research and development, marketing, and engineering. Ivey was responsible for the HVAC and plumbing for the new facility which included the installation of approximately 250,000 pounds of ductwork and 25,000 linear feet of piping.
The Kirby

The Kirby was renovated to help restore historic charm in the downtown area while providing tenants with technological advantages. The 17 story structure once was an office building but now houses 157 apartments and 15,000 square feet of retail space. Renotating The Kirby presented unique challenges beginning with the structure’s age and the owner’s desire to maintain all historical detail.
